Elgg 1.x calendar

Kevin Jardine has kindly released a simple Calendar for Elgg 1.x. This is the essential application that Elgg needs to really hit the big time. It needs a little work and I hope that I or someone else can start hitting this list of ideas.

Elgg development

I have been following Elgg for a while now. I was a little annoyed with how the code in Elgg .92 was laid out, but the structure of Elgg 1.x is superb. I really want to develop on this platform but unfortunately there are very few people who provide services to do this currently. I need a software house willing to take this on otherwise we'll have to go for something else. Elgg 1.x is written from the ground up to be a social networking application and the feature set is impressive, it would be a shame to let this opportunity slip by

Take a look at how easy it is to create new themes for it

ASP .NET

after getting my 3.5 down to 2.0 I put it on the IIS 6 server. All was well until the next day when everything was really unresponsive. I had the LIVE application running under 1.1 with the new dev application running under 2.0 on the same section of IIS 6.0. This was obviously causing a major conflict of interests and braeking the whole damn shebang

Lessons learnt.
- Have separate live and test server!
- Use application pools on IIS to avoid this nonsense

Visual Studio 2008 fun and games

Developing using Visual Studio 2008 Web developer has been an intersting experience. First of all I find that it wont recompile a dll made in express edition, so I buy pro. I then find that my .net 3.5 program wont run on our IIS 6 which only goes up to 2.0. A downgrade of the program solves that, I didn't use any of the new functions. then it kept freezing all the time, mainly when switching between design and source mode, whatever you do, don't use split view. tooooooo slow. Had to patch everything up to the latest versions and these hiccups sorted themselves out. I also find that code written in Visual studio web developer 2003 isn't standards compliant with new xhtml and can;t find an easy way to convert it.

post on this at: http://www.hanselman.com/blog/HowToSetAnIISApplicationOrAppPoolToUseASPNET35RatherThan20.aspx

Program is ready to go.
